When we think of summer, most of us are thinking, “how can I achieve a summer body I’m happy with?” Sure, eating healthy and exercising are how we can reach our body goals, but few understand that acupuncture can actually be used as a supplemental treatment.
Think about what causes weight gain- addictions or attachments to unhealthy foods, fatigue and lack of sleep, and increased stress levels. With this ancient Chinese technique, these factors can be combated. According to the website, Acupuncture of Weight Loss, acupuncture “aids in a more effective management of the metabolic reactions and reduces food cravings also improving the overall blood circulation in the body.” This treatment also, “significantly decreases cholesterol levels.. and improves blood circulation and relaxes the nervous system.” Acupuncture helps to strengthen organs, such as the liver, so that our bodies are functioning at optimal rates. When there is stagnation in the liver, our bodies may experience headaches, emotional issues and digestive issues, among other things. This roller coaster of sensations throughout our entire body creates so much stress that the body changes its focus from maintaining good health to trying to regulate all of the issues that it is experiencing left and right.
When our bodies can move on to healthier foods and being in a more active state, we feel more energized, more confident and motivated to continue on our journey to optimal health. Aligning good functions throughout our body helps us to focus on our goals, be it losing weight, curing insomnia or even ending addictions. With the combination of a healthy diet, an exercise routine and regular acupuncture, you will see and feel the positive changes your body is experiencing.
As mentioned by Youth Health Magazine, an experiment was published by Korean researchers in the BMJ Journal Acupuncture in Medicine, in which two acupuncture techniques were put to the test to see which was more effective for weight loss. The first group “had needles inserted in their acupuncture sites for shen-men, stomach, spleen, hunger and endocrine.” The second had five key points in the ear to aid with the weight loss. After eight weeks of treatments, both treatments resulted in a decreased BMI and an increase in overall health; however, the five point technique in the ears had greater results.
I know having needles in your ear could sound a little scary, but trust that it has so many amazing points for our bodies. If you are trying to achieve the body and health you’ve always wanted, give acupuncture a try! With your hard work and the aid of acupuncture, you’ll be amazed at the results.
